Progressive calendar

Progressive calendar

While promoting social democratic resources, we gradually came to the conclusion that as much content as possible is needed for the development of this cause. It is best if it is published daily. One way to provide a set of topics for social media posts is to create a calendar of historical events. On its own, this calendar will not solve the problem of content creation, but it will facilitate it. The calendar is incomplete and will be edited — write your additions and corrections in the comments.

Our calendar does not include religious and patriotic holidays, as the social democratic movement is secular and international. Only events that are important for all humanity are highlighted here. However, we could not avoid a bias towards Russian specifics here, since our journal is Russian and its editors are primarily familiar with the history of Russia. It would be best if social democrats from other countries joined in supplementing the calendar, but even now quite a lot is covered in it.

All dates are listed according to the Gregorian calendar. It is important to note that not all events in the calendar have a positive meaning — some of the dates are tragic, and some are neutral. Listed here are primarily those dates that can be discussed on a specific day, topics for content. We will try to gradually provide a brief overview of these events, but this will happen in stages and is unlikely to be completed in the near future. Many of the calendar dates carry the stamp of several events, so if we have several social democratic publications, there is an opportunity for them to write posts that do not overlap with each other. The events are not arranged in chronological order — but from those most requiring mention to those less requiring it (according to the subjective assessment of the author of the calendar, which may change).

Regarding certain individuals mentioned in the calendar, it is permissible to mention two dates — birth and death, but sometimes we make a choice in favor of one date (if there are already enough events on one of the two days). We have mentioned not only social democrats, but also those who contributed to democratization, the establishment of parliamentarism, and the implementation of progressive values. Write in the comments to this article how, from your point of view, the article can be supplemented.
